Educating Is The First Step

Whenever I see an opening in conversation I like to throw in some education on heroin, opiates, drugs and addiction.

When I read, see or hear some trash talk conversation or those seem to talk clueless about heroin and addiction I normally start with:

Not one person ever wakes up one morning, bored and says, "hmmmm I think I'll become a heroin addict today."

Not one parent ever has said, "I hope to raise a heroin addict."

Educating should begin with every parent in every home. Just because you have an honor student in your home should not deter you from having conversations about drugs.

Just because your honor student has a 4.0 grade point average and is expected to be contacted by every Ivy League in the country doesn't mean you shouldn't have the discussion.

In this day and age every parent should be monitoring their kids online history, cell phone use and every other modern day gadget that these kids cannot live without. This should be done everyday.

Every school and teacher in this state should be teaching awareness. Imagine the surprise the school officials would find visiting all their bathrooms at lunch time for chill pill time. Hmmmm....

Conversations should even be part of Sunday School.

The numbers already prove that the majority of kids in school today are raised in a home where parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins are affected by heroin and or drugs. Every school and church should have in place a program just like the Nar-Anon programs where young kids of all age groups can attend just to know they are not alone.
